Dating is scary—especially when you’re wooing the physical manifestations of human phobias. Fall in love with a Fear. Try not to flinch.

No matter what you do. No matter how hard you try. There is only one ending waiting for you.
Gamophobia’s alternate-reality Toronto is the setting in which you will woo and date the physical manifestations of common phobias. In this doomed visual novel, live and learn through the vignettes of fourteen vastly different yet ultimately similar relationships. The Fears grow less scary as you get to know them: Unpack why people are afraid of them by learning their histories and what exactly makes them tick.
Will you still fear them by the end of it?
Twelve ladies laying,
Eleven liars lying,
Ten Fears a-flirting,
Nine photos fading,
Eight criers crying,
Seven spiders spinning,
Six suns a-setting,
Five CN towers!
Four-fingered hands,
Three dates each,
Two bent necks,
And a timer ticking down!
75,000 words of total dialogue, that will end too often and too soon.
Hundreds of pieces of hand-drawn digital art, including backgrounds based on local spots in Toronto and Southern Ontario.
Each of the forty-two unique dates exist in a Toronto that plays itself: the backgrounds are all real locations in the city, and much of the atmospheric audio was recorded on-site. Gamophobia is a speculative fiction visual novel and love letter to the city and the people who call it home.
