The oldest duel in space, replayed like day one - only better. In 1962, on a PDP-1 computer the size of a wardrobe, a handful of MIT students invented one of the very first video games in history:
Spacewar!. Two ships, a merciless star, and gravity as the only law.
This version doesn't go all the way back to the PDP-1: it's an
adaptation of the 1980s MS-DOS version, the one that lit up the phosphor screens of a whole generation of PC players. We kept its soul - the vector lines, the unforgiving inertia, the twitchy duel - and opened it up to four players, online and on the couch alike.
A duel of precision and nerve
No lives, no XP bar: just you, your thrust, and an energy reserve that drains
four times faster than it recharges. Every maneuver costs you.
- Torpedo - fired along your velocity vector: inertia decides everything.
- Phaser - a mid-range hitscan beam that tears through... and vaporizes incoming torpedoes.
- Cloak - vanish from the radar, at a steep price.
- Hyperspace - flee the impact... or reappear in the worst possible spot.
- The planet - dead center: its gravity pulls you in, its touch disintegrates you.
Up to 4, anywhere
- 1 to 4 players, local AND online, in the same game.
- Bots with three temperaments - defensive, offensive, balanced: real opponents, not targets.
- Two players on one keyboard, on a controller, or a mix of both.
- Steam Deck compatible.
