Hikaru Yagen, a pharmacist who lost his childhood friend Umi — a girl he had grown up with since they were young — to an incurable illness known as "Awayuki Disease." "If only I had the power back then" — carrying that regret with him, he has spent the past five years searching for a cure for the same disease.

Then, a girl named Asuka appears before him, bearing the same symptoms as Umi. "This time, I will definitely save her." Having made that resolution one night, her condition suddenly takes a turn for the worse, and a single mysterious medical chart appears. The next moment, Yagen finds himself lost in a place that closely resembles the hospital he knows, yet feels somehow different — the "Ward of Melting Snow."
