Luck has smiled on you! You've inherited a field in Texas, in country where - so folks say - there's oil. With a budget that's modest for this line of work, you start drilling and try to sell your oil at the best price the market will give. Helping you in this ambitious mission is Tex - an old hand who cut his teeth in the oil business.
What you've got to work with
your hard-earned savings - a staggering $60,000,
a sonar that scans deep into the ground,
derricks, pumps, and pump-side storage tanks (or barrels, if you'd rather pinch pennies there),
a local oil buyer who takes a thief's cut of a margin, but lets you get the business rolling,
a garage and a fleet of vehicles to haul your oil,
a warehouse where you can stockpile oil while waiting for better market prices,
an office that lets you hire operators and build managed teams out of them, browse and sign oil delivery contracts, and buy more plots of land.
The game lets you explore your fields in more ways than one: from a drone, at ground level, and deep underground (think MRI scanner).
From field work to strategic management
As the game goes on, the nature of your tasks changes:
well automation,
managing operator teams - issuing group orders such as hauling oil to the warehouse or fulfilling a contract,
managing your vehicle fleet: trucks and tankers,
making new investments - buying more plots of land,
signing contracts to deliver oil to refineries, the railroad, and the army,
reacting to random events that move the oil price and shake up your business.
All of it steeped in the atmosphere of a Texas oil field, with a day-night cycle and calm, relaxing music.
