In 2027, a radio signal of clearly artificial origin was received from the K2-18 star system. In 2036, the home planet was engulfed in a humanitarian crisis, and two years later, the "Ark Initiative" was established.
The Initiative's scientists managed to decipher the signal: it contained detailed instructions for building a device for the instant teleportation of mass through space. In 2047, the decision was made to launch an expedition to K2-18b.
