You choose the contract/house you want to go to with your group, or alone.The company you work for gives you a list of tasks, for each task you will receive money and experience as a ghost hunter.For this money you can buy equipment.But, all the equipment is not immediately available to you, in order to gain access to a larger list of things, you must successfully complete tasks on contracts.
